How To Wear the Right Mask For You

The World Health Organization recommends the use of face masks and other personal protective equipment (PPE) not only in health care, but in your community and when interacting with public surfaces. PPE is not only necessary to protect yourself, but others as well. The incubation period of COVID-19 is said to last about 14 days, meaning those infected are at risk of unknowingly spreading the virus to others even if they’re not showing symptoms yet.

That’s why it’s so important to take the proper precautions and make sure your face is appropriately covered. We’ve been working around the clock with various manufacturers to secure as many masks as we can so that you have the right protection. Let’s go over some Do’s and Don’ts for wearing masks safely.

1. Before You Do Anything – Make sure your hands are scrubbed clean with soap or sanitizer for at least 20 seconds.

2. Inspect the Mask – With clean hands, inspect the mask to ensure it is free of any tears or holes and hasn’t been used or damp.

3. Locate the Top – The top of the mask should have a metal piece or a stiff edge for securing to your nose.

4. Cover Your Face – Point the colored side outwards and use the elastic loops to wrap them around your ears, covering your mouth, nose, and chin. Remember to press the metal piece down over your nose and make sure there are no gaps.

5. Avoid Touching the Mask – Do not touch the front of the mask or remove it when talking to someone or doing something that would require touching the mask. If you have to adjust the mask, remove it from behind the ears and head, keeping it away from yourself and other surfaces.

6. Proper Disposal – Discard disposable masks immediately, preferably in a closed trash bin and wash your hands once again.

How to Make Homemade Sanitizer Wipes

A handy trick we’ve just learned is to take some hand sanitizer and create your very own DIY sanitizer wipes in just a few short steps! With Coronavirus (Covid-19) and quarantine/stay-at-home measures in place, it’s essential to sanitize your workspaces and homes.

We have been getting MANY calls from customers asking if our Purifize Hand Cleaner can disinfect surfaces. The short answer is absolutely YES. Because Purifize is 70% alcohol, it exceeds CDC minimum standards. You can certainly pour a bunch in your hands and then wipe it on whatever you want to sanitize – but that’s kinda weird isn’t it?

Here’s how to make your own wipes (Watch the How-To Video on Our Site):

  1. Cut paper towel roll to size for storing in a resealable container. Maybe you have an old container for sanitizer wipes that ran out – or you could use a big Ziplock bag.
  2. Put inside the container and pour enough Purifize to saturate the paper towels inside. Purifize isn’t as thick as some other goopy hand sanitizers like Purell, so it works a little easier to pour in.
  3. Keep sealed up until ready to use.

Use these wipes for those infrequent trips to the store (wipe down cart handles) gas pump handles, and doorknobs. Keep some in the glovebox or on your desk to remind you to keep clean!

Used in combination with frequent hand-washing with good quality soap, proper filtration masks, and social distancing – you’ll stay as safe as you can be.

Now we want to point out that due to its high alcohol content, it can be used safely on glass and plastic surfaces. We do not recommend it be used on wood as the alcohol disinfectant might strip the wood surface and polish (you can always test a small portion first and see how it goes from there).

Important Tips For Working From Home

homeworkSince the coronavirus outbreak, working from home has become the norm for some. It can also be quite a challenge if you haven’t done it before. It can be tough to stay focused with all of the distractions of home right around you, plus feeling disconnected can get to you, too.

At the time of writing this we still have people coming into the office but we have deemed that “At-Risk” employees should be working from home.

Here are a few things you can do to try to effectively work from home.

1. Ditch The PJs – First, get changed out of your pajamas every morning. It’ll help get you in the right headspace for work and allow you to take video calls on the fly.

2. Workspace(s) – Pick one or more dedicated workspaces, ideally with a decent chair that will support your back.

3. Mornings – Wake up more than five minutes before your workday starts. You need time to prepare for the day, both mentally and physically.

4. Shoes – Sounds strange, but try wearing shoes, because let’s be real: You probably wouldn’t be chilling barefoot in an office.

5. Music/TV Softly – Listen to music or put the TV on quietly, since working from home can sometimes be a little too quiet, which makes it difficult to focus.

6. Lunch Breaks – Take a lunch break like you would normally do at work.

7. Regular Breaks – Take breaks so you don’t burn out. Stand up and stretch your legs!

8. Socialize – Be sure to socialize after work, even if it’s just a video call, to keep the loneliness at bay.

9. Household Chores a No-No – Don’t do household chores randomly throughout the day, since it can get distracting. Instead, schedule a specific time for them.

10. “I’m Working!” – Make sure the people you live with understand you’re working and to keep quiet when you’re on the phone.

11. Headphones – Use headphones and mute your microphone during conference calls (unless you’re speaking) to minimize the amount of audio feedback and times that random sounds interrupt the conversation.

12. Team Contact – Be in regular contact with your team, in part to make sure that you’re actually working from home.

13. Fresh Air – Go outside! Even if it’s just a quick walk or stretch, the fresh air will do wonders.

14. Stay Active – Finally, stay active. If you can’t go to an fitness class or to the gym, there are plenty of effective workouts you can do at home. YouTube them.
