Tea Tree Oil Benefits and Uses

Tea Tree Oil is an essential oil that has been around for quite a while but not until the past decade, or so, has its healing benefits been catching on like wildfire. The oil is extracted from a plant native to Australia and cannot be found naturally occurring elsewhere. And for something that is found in such a specific area it’s amazing to learn that it can be used in an abundance of ways… both therapeutically and cosmetically!

It has often to be referred to as “medicine cabinet in a bottle” and I will be completely honest with you – Tea Tree oil truly works wonders! I’ve used it for toenail fungus and it took care of it in no time at all! It also comes in handy when you are bugged by insect bites, itchy dry skin, sunburn – even poison ivy! Trust me, the benefits far outweigh the less than pleasant smell, and luckily, the smell does go away. Now, without further ado, let’s check out its many remarkable benefits…

Tea Tree Oil Benefits

Acne… Applying Tea Tree oil directly to the blemishes and the surrounding areas twice daily will speed the healing. Applying it at night definitely works the best as one of the application times.

Minor burns… Wash the burn area right away with ICE water. Then apply Tea Tree Oil directly to the burned area. This will speed healing, prevent infection, and reduce scarring.

Dandruff and Itchy Scalp… Add Tea Tree Oil to your shampoo. Just 3 drops per ounce of shampoo is the ratio you should use! To get the best results, leave it on for a few minutes then rinse; it will help break up product build up and excess hair oil. Plus, it leaves hair squeaky clean. For itchy scalps… Massage 5 drops of Tea Tree Oil to the scalp AFTER using the pre-mixed shampoo.

Repels Lice… Using the shampoo mixture will also help to repel lice. I suggest using this the first few weeks or months of school when the lice problem is at its worst. It will not kill lice, only repel them.

Nail Fungus and Infection… Apply the oil to the area that is affected and around cuticles. Massage the oil into the nails and cuticles. Do not rinse it off. If you have a stubborn case, soak the nails for 5 minutes with a 50-50 mix of tea tree oil and olive oil. And make sure to soak daily! This can be used on the feet also, which is nice!

More Tea Tree Oil Benefits

Minor Cuts and Abrasions… Wash the area and apply the oil. For abrasions, apply the oil directly to the area. This improves healing and reduces scarring, much like it does with minor burns, which I mentioned above.

Poison Ivy-Poison Oak-Poison Sumac… This makes me itch just thinking about it! Apply the Tea Tree Oil directly to the area. For large areas, mix equal parts of Tea Tree Oil and olive oil. This will stop the itching and start the healing process immediately. What a relief!

Sunburn… Don’t get burned this summer, but if you do… make sure you mix 5 drops of Tea Tree Oil with 5 drops of Vitamin E oil. You can pierce a vitamin E capsule or buy a bottle of vitamin E oil at any health food store or drug store. Once it’s mixed be sure to apply generously. Ouch!

Skin Care… Tea Tree Oil is known to penetrate the skin at a cellular level. Adding 10 drops of Tea Tree Oil to your favorite moisturizer or lotion will help smooth and rebuild skin cells. It is also very effective on people with eczema and psoriasis when applied full strength to the areas.

Bath Soak… Treat you aching body with a soothing bath. Add 10-15 drops of Tea Tree Oil to your bath water. Soak for 20-30 minutes. What this does is soothe tired muscles and invigorates the whole body. That sounds nice, right?

Warts… Apply Tea Tree Oil 2-3 times a day directly on the wart daily until the wart disappears. The wart will dry up and go away. It may take weeks, so be prepared that this is not an overnight cure, but does work.

All-Purpose Cleaner… Just add a spray bottle with 1-2 tsp. of Tea Tree Oil and the rest of the bottle with water. This with help to spruce up many surface around the house.

Relieves Earaches… Simply mix 1 drop of Tea Tree Oil with 1 tsp. olive oil, drop mixture into the ear and then remove by tilting head and letting it drain out.

Refresh Clothing… Give clothes a natural, chemical-free boost of freshness when you add 2 teaspoons of pure oil to a regular load of laundry during the wash cycle.

Clean Toothbrush… Keep your toothbrush fresh and clean by applying a drop of Tea Tree Oil between uses. This helps ward off germs and bacteria to help it last longer.
